The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia was called to a residence on Green Springs Road regarding an 1,800-pound Draft horse that had fallen into a swimming pool after accidentally plowing through a fence.
Police say that responding deputies determined that the horse knocked over the top rail of the fence surrounding the pool, jumped the fence, and walked out onto the nylon pool cover, causing it to fall into the frigid water, though its head and part of its body were still above the water in the nine-foot end of the pool.
Deputies quickly went to work, cutting the pool cover away from the horse until it could be pulled to the shallow end of the pool to catch its breath. The horse then was guided up the story to the pool deck and back into the home’s yard.
The veterinarian who treats the horse was contacted, and the homeowner and deputies were advised to get the horse as dry as possible, feed it hay, and keep it moving until it warmed up.
Officials said that after being treated and taken care of, the horse was fine, if not a little spooked from it’s early December swim.
